Live-stream nature trails

Comfy Creatures monitoring stations installed in nest boxes along public walking trails let everyone in the community discover arboreal fauna and contribute to their conservation. Use the free Comfy Creatures Monitor app for iPhone and Android to stream live video and download environmental data from each nest box.

To connect

  1. Download the free Comfy Creatures Monitor app.
  2. Find a nest box using the maps below and walk towards the tree. You don't need to stand underneath it, just within Wi-Fi range.
  3. Turn on your phone's flight mode.
  4. Open your phone's list of Wi-Fi networks and connect to the station's network, for example CC_MS_1.
  5. Open the Comfy Creatures Monitor app and tap Start stream.

Note: the stations are only awake at set times each day. Check the wake times for each site below.

Tips

  • Only one person can connect to each station at a time. Disconnect from its Wi-Fi when you've finished viewing, and consider turning off auto-reconnect.
  • Some functions are PIN-protected and only available to authorised people.
  • Ambient light may be enough in some nest boxes. Otherwise, tap the Night vision icon to turn on the infrared light, which is safe for wildlife.
  • Use Quick observation or Detailed observation to log important data such as animal activity and environmental readings (temperature, air pressure and so on). Remember to sync your observations when you're back online.

Cubberla-Witton Catchments Network (CWCN)

The Cubberla-Witton Catchments Network (CWCN) was established in 1999 as a volunteer organisation focused on re-establishing and maintaining ecologically healthy catchments for both environmental and community benefit. Its catchments are Cubberla, Witton, Sandy, Toowong and Western creeks, plus adjacent areas along the Brisbane River in Brisbane's western suburbs.

CWCN is a not-for-profit organisation registered as a charity with the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission (ABN 21 367 529 654). Over the past 25 years it has secured grants from all levels of government and from private organisations for a wide range of projects in its catchments, including the Cubberla Creek Nestbox Trail, funded by the Brisbane Airport Corporation's 2025 Community Giving Grant.

CWCN encourages community engagement and connection with the environment, so it eagerly supported the nest box trail. See the CWCN website for its full list of objectives and activities.

Moggill Creek Catchment Group (MCCG)

MCCG delivered 30 live-stream nest boxes under Brisbane City Council's 2025 Environment Grant and a further 60 under round 9 of the federal government's Stronger Communities grants.

  • Brisbane City Council grant nest boxes have the prefix MCCG.
  • Stronger Communities nest boxes have the prefix MCCGGC.

3–5 pm daily.

Rainbow Lorikeet Park (RLP)

Rainbow Lorikeet Park has 11 nest boxes: six fitted with Comfy Creatures monitoring stations and five without. All 11 are shown on the online map; tick Other Boxes to see the ones without stations. To minimise disturbance to any occupants and comply with animal ethics policy, nest boxes without stations are only inspected twice a year. Care4esK Sandy Creek Wildlife Walk

Care4esK is an incorporated not-for-profit association of community volunteers committed to protecting local biodiversity. The Care4esK Sandy Creek Wildlife Walk has four live-stream nest boxes along a bushland recreational trail on a riparian corridor at the base of Mount Glen Rock in Esk. The project was partly funded by Powerlink's 2025 Community Grants Program.

Care4esK works with multiple agencies to deliver research data for a range of species. Through a current Healthy Land & Water program, five koalas along this corridor have been fitted with innovative Bluetooth ear tags that alert trail users to their presence. Helping the community connect more closely with our unique wildlife builds greater understanding and appreciation.

As further funding becomes available, Care4esK plans to add more live-stream nest boxes and extend the Sandy Creek Wildlife Walk further along the corridor.
