Supply & Services

Every site is a little different, so we supply monitoring stations by quote rather than through the online shop. That way we can match the nest box, lens, installation and support to your project.

Combined system: nest box + monitoring station

This is our standard offering. The station comes fitted to one of our CNC-made timber nest boxes, with cable slots and our mounting system built in, ready to install and commission. We make nest boxes in a range of sizes, depths and entrance configurations. Many projects install a mix and let the observations show which designs local wildlife takes to. That's especially useful when you're targeting species we don't yet know how to support.

Monitoring station only

Already have nest boxes or other artificial cavities? The station can be supplied on its own to retrofit them. Three lens options suit different depths:

  • Wide angle: shallow or landscape-style boxes (around 150 mm deep)
  • Standard: boxes around 40 cm deep
  • Deep: cavities deeper than about 80 cm

Designs vary, so send us a photo and the dimensions of your nest boxes or cavities and we'll confirm the fit.

Installation and commissioning

We can install nest boxes by ladder or with certified rope access for taller trees. Each station is then commissioned in the app, which records details of the cavity, the tree and the installation so every future observation has context. A commissioning check after installation makes sure everything is working as it should.

Maintained live-stream trails

For councils and community groups, we offer fully maintained live-stream nest box trails over a fixed term, typically three years. This suits grant-funded projects where you want the trail to keep working long after launch day. The scope can include:

  • six-monthly maintenance visits
  • annual reporting on biodiversity and community engagement
  • trail signage and online maps
  • images and video watermarked to recognise the project sponsor

Support and warranty

There are around 300 Comfy Creatures monitoring stations in the field, mostly in South-East Queensland. It's still young technology, though: we don't yet have years of data on how long the electronics will last, and every new setting brings its own conditions.

If anything plays up, let us know and we'll repair or replace it under our 12-month manufacturer's warranty on the station electronics, on top of your rights under Australian Consumer Law. We're a small Queensland team, so you'll be dealing directly with the person who designed the system, and your feedback goes straight into the next version.

Common questions

Can I buy a monitoring station online?
Not at the moment. Send us an enquiry with a few details about your project and we'll come back to you with options and a quote.

Does it need mobile coverage, internet or a subscription?
No. Your phone connects directly to the station's own Wi-Fi. Observations are stored on your phone and sync to the public database when you're next online, so it works on remote sites.

How close do I need to be?
The station's Wi-Fi range is more than 100 m with a clear line of sight. Vegetation reduces this somewhat, but you won't need to stand under the tree.

When can I connect?
To conserve power, stations wake at set times each day. You set these during commissioning, along with any scheduled observations.

Can the public use it?
Yes, that's what it was designed for. Anyone with the free app can stream from a public station and use the no-glow night vision. White light, the pest alarm and settings stay PIN-protected for authorised people.

What data can I get out of it?
Observations (photos with sensor readings) are shared to the public Wildlife Dashboard. Project managers can also download each station's environmental log and its public connection statistics.
